We're all familiar with the amount of energy used by all our equipment when we’re standing in the hot aisle. Datecenters are spending another 25% on top of that to get rid of the heat in the datacenter. What is needed to turn that into something useful? And what does that mean for your infrastructure.
Reinvent the datacenter to use our waste heat
Moving heat is a lot more difficult than moving data traffic. That is why we search for locations where the the waste heat can be used, instead of transporting the heat to these locations. Heat transfer is a very costly investment and a lot of heat is lost during transport. That is why we try to limit this as much as possible.
Most of the data centres in the Netherlands currently operate at an inlet temperature of 27 degrees based on air. Unfortunately, this heat is difficult to reuse. And it takes a considerable amount of energy to upgrade waste heat to 60 degrees. That is why we want to cool with higher temperatures.
